2. How does the location of Max's room "The DOWN UNDER," relate to how he feels about himself? Make sure you use evidence from the book.

1. Max is convinced he doesn’t have a brain because he feels that he isn’t very intelligent. His belief of being a butthead is incorrect because he is smart on the inside but his emotional damage makes him think he is one.
2. Max’s room, the “down under” relates to how he feels because he always seems to be feeling down about himself and the “down under” is down under the surface like his emotions.

1. In my opinion he is convinced that he is dumb because he is in all these special classes and is in L.D. In my opinion I think he is incorrect of himself being a “butthead” because everybody more than one thing they aren’t good at and his is just one of the bigger ones.
2. In my opinion he feels about his room “The Down Under” special. Also I think he likes it down there and likes to be away from his Gram and Grim saying “Maxwell dear, what are you doing?” . Also he feels good when Freak said that his room was cool.

1. In my opinion, Max is convinced that he doesn’t have a brain because he feels that everyone around him is smarter than him, especially Freak. I do not believe that he is a “butthead” because he probably is smart, and what he thinks id pretty normal. He also might do something that other people think is weird, and makes him feel like a “butthead” I have once thought that I was stupid, but I don’t think so anymore.
2. In my opinion, “The Down Under” relates to the way Max feels about himself because it seems lonely, and like it is trying to stay away from the world, which is kind of how Max feels. It seems a lot like that mostly when he is in the Down Under. On page 5, it says, “I like it down here, got the place all to myself and no fear of Gram sticking her head in the door and saying Maxwell dear, what are you doing?”
1#. In my opinion, Max’s belief as himself as a “butthead” is incorrect. I think this because in the book when he wants to bring Freak to his room he knows he can’t walk there himself. He picks him up, puts him in the wagon, and pulls him over to the bullock doors. This shows he is smart.
2#. In my opinion, the Down Under relates to how Max feels about himself by when he thinks that his Grim built it for him because he’s a “monster” and he’s at his “dangerous age”. This is on page 5.

1. Max thinks he does not have a brain because he doesn’t know what freak is saying most of the time. He also has never heard of King Arthur, and even though he lived a long time ago I have still heard of him. So he is a little dumb.
2. Max feels like the down under because he feels depressed and cheerful at the same time because he made a new friend but people are starting to be afraid of him.

1. In my opinion Max is convinced he’s a “butthead” and does not have a brain because he’s in a language disorder class. Although he thinks he’s a butthead I don’t. In my opinion he’s pretty smart because if he wouldn’t how would he be able to do all of these good ideas to his room in his basement called “The Down Under”. He did things like putting rugs, a bed, and comic books to read so as far as I’m concerned he’s a pretty bright kid.
2. The location of Max’s room “The Down Under” relates to how he feels about himself because it’s a dark place like it said on page 18 so he reads comic books and he feels like he’s not smart because he is reading comic books all day.
1. In my opinion Max thinks he is a butthead and he has no brain is because he is in L.D. class. Also when he meets Freak, Max sees how smart he is with his vocabulary and called himself a butthead.
2. In my opinion the location of Max’s room relates to himself because he feels empty. That relates to his room because his room is empty.

1. In my opinion that Max is convinced that he doesn’t have a brain because his Grim and Gram say that he is so tall and that he is becoming like Him ( The Dad ) which Max takes as an insult and takes it as though they were calling him dumb so he convinced himself that he is dumb. Also I don’t think that his belief of himself being a Butthead correct because he just thinks that because other people think that he is dumb so he thinks he is dumb.
2. In my opinion the location of Max’s room “The DOWN UNDER” relates to how he feels because he doesn’t feel good about himself so like he is not happy with himself and I know this because he says “I never had a brain until Freak came along” that kind of says that he doubts himself and the DOWN UNDER kind of sounds like something you would say when you were sad and he feels sad. So the location of his room relates to how he feels because it sounds like something sad and he is kind of sad.

1. In my opinion I believe that Max is convinced that he doesn’t have a brain because he doesn’t have large vocabulary. Also in the book it says that he didn’t get very good grades. His belief of himself as a butthead isn’t correct because as in “The Junkyard Wonders” not all of the people in the junkyard are “smart”, but they each have a special thing. So it isn’t correct.
2.The location of maxes room “The down under” relates to how he feels about himself by being alone and liking it, but still has that feeling to want company. Just like in “Wonder Struck” Where ben ran away to find his father alone, but still wanted company

#1.In my opinion Max is not really dumb or stupid in fact he is probably quite smart and that the only reason he thinks that he is dumb is because while he was growing up and still today everyone around him has thought of him as “different”, ”special”, or even incapable of learning.

#2.In my opinion Max’s living area “The Down Under” relates to how he feels about himself because I certainly would not feel very good about myself if I lived in a dark, smelly, old basement all by myself. This leads me to believe that Max’s room makes him feel bad, or lonely.

1. In my opinion, max is convinced he has no brain because freak says everything in scientific talk and he never understands what freak is saying and he feels stupid. Also, Max’s idea of himself being a ‘butthead’ is correct because he’s always thinking of himself as that and if he keeps thinking that he’s a butthead he’ll keep being a butthead.
2. Max feels like the down under because he’s always depressed and upset. In the book, he is depressed when he finds out the ‘Fair Gwen of Air’ is afraid of him.

1. In my opinion Max’s belief of him having no brain and a “Butthead” Is not true because He doesn’t think he can read very well so that makes him think he’s stupid. But He has figured out a way to make the basement, where he lives, and made it a nice little hang out (page 15). So no in my opinion think that Max is not a “butthead” and he does have a brain.
2. In my opinion the location of Max’s room does relate to his feelings because he feels dark and gloomy about himself and he does not like growing so fast and being made fun of. Therefore If it depended on me Max’s room location does relate to his feelings.

1. Max is convinced he doesn’t have a brain because when he meets Freak he thinks he is a butthead because he thinks Freak is the most smart kid, and he thinks that he is dumb and stupid.
2. The location of he’s room relates to him. It relates to him because he doesn’t like Grim poking her head and saying “Maxwell, what are you doing?” he also like it because he likes his own personal space.

1. In my opinion Max is convinced he does not have a brain because he does not have good vocabulary and he is a slow learner. He says in the book that he has bad vocabulary and he also says he’s a slow “learner”.
2. The location of Max’s “The Down Under” relates to how he feels about himself by The Down Under being worn out and disgusting.

1. In my opinion, Max thinks he’s stupid because he doesn’t have a large vocabulary. Most of the time he shrugs at what freak says. Freak uses all these large words that max has no idea what they mean. I Think max is just not really that open to learning that’s why he does not know a lot of words that freak says . Like in the chapter American Flyer, Max helps freak gets a plastic bird, then freak says “oh it’s a ornothopter” Max was clueless, that’s why he’s thinks he stupid.
2. Max thinks the down under is his little hide out, his grand pa thinks he’s dangerous, max thinks he’s dangerous, instead of sleeping in a real room, his gran parents put his room the basement. His grandparents think he might make bombs or make a fire. That’s why he thinks he is too dangerous.
1. In my opinion Max thinks he does not have a brain because he is in a L.D. class. Also Max is made fun of. Since he is being made fun of he starts to think differently of himself. Also when he is being made fun of his anger erupts from him which makes him more of an easy target. So him calling himself a “butthead” is incorrect.
2. Since Max lives in a crummy room he thinks his grandparents don’t love him so he feels that he isn’t loved or even liked at school. The evidence is that his grandfather thinks Max his at a dangerous age they send him in “The DOWN UNDER” where Max is all alone so he has no one to interact with. In my opinion since he is living in “The DOWN UNDER” it does affect his feelings about himself.

1. In my opinion Max is not a butthead because he only thinks he is because he believes he is. Because he’s smart enough to help out Freak and become friends with him.
2.The location of his down under relates to the fact that he’s living in a junky room (page 5) so he makes himself feel like junk by calling himself “Butthead” page 4.
1. In my opinion Max’s thinks that he has no brain because he is in L d class. This probably makes him feel like a stupid guy compared to everyone else in the school. One thing that would make this worse is that Grim and Gram are not the most supportive as they could be. In my opinion his belief in himself as a butthead is not true. He feels like this because of the way other people treat him. On way is the kids at school that tease him and call him mean names. Also that Grim and Gram never seem to care for him and they do not really think of him as a kid, instead they think of him like some kind of axe murder.
2. In my opinion the Down Under relates to his feelings about himself by making him feel unwanted. It seems to me like Grim and Gram want to keep him out of sight and really wants to keep him out of sight. It also gives that message when they describe the Down Under as almost run down and uncared for on page 5.

1. In my opinion Max is convinced that he doesnt have a brain because he has heard from around him that he is different cause of his growing but he has taken it a different way by thinking he is dumb.
2. In my opinion the down under relates to how he feels unliked because it is like a cave where no one can come or can see him and I'm sure he feels depressed down there.
